Getting to know Anthony Brown (partner)
Anthony began his career in estate agency in 1996 with a small Guildford firm, before moving to Burns & Webber where he met fellow Chantries partners, Kate Basson and Chris Dean.
After eight years, Anthony moved to Savills’ Guildford office where he set up a new residential department. Joined by Chris in 2005, the pair managed a highly profitable team of seven staff.
“At Chantries, we pride ourselves on a wealth of local knowledge and, as much as I hate to say it because it makes me sound old, years of experience!
“Born and educated in Guildford, and now raising a family here too, I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. Guildford is the heart of Surrey and home to some of the most beautiful and historic buildings in the county.
“The area is also renowned for its metropolitan blend of shops, pubs, restaurants and bars which provide endless entertainment options. Guildford also plays host to a variety of events throughout the year including its very own Fringe Festival, Food Festival and the County’s annual agricultural event – The Surrey County Show – which takes place this weekend.
“The show celebrates the best of the county, bringing the countryside into Guildford’s vibrant town centre. To those visiting from afar, I’m sure after seeing what Surrey can offer you’ll want to settle down here – why not come and see what we can offer too!”
Away from the workplace, Anthony enjoys spending time with his wife and their two young children as well as trying to improve his golf handicap… the key word being ‘trying’.

Like many buyers, I log onto Rightmove each morning to find out what’s happened in Guildford’s ever-changing property market over the last 24 hours: which houses have gone under offer and what new instructions have been added. However, as we edge into autumn, we’re seeing a significant rise in the number of properties marked Reduced Today and this is something we need to address. While this isn’t a new phenomenon - even in a busy market there’s always been a smattering of them - the post-Brexit landscape means they are now outweighing new instructions marked Added Today on a daily basis.Read more
